I began making baskets in Vacation Bible School, many, many  years ago. Those early experiences began my love of basketry. There was a period of time in the 70s when I laid my baskets aside to raise my 4 children. When they were all in school, and I had a little more free time, I started my lifelong hobby again.

In 1984 after many requests from friends, I held my first basket weaving class. I started with one of  the hardest baskets there is to create, the egg basket. That's what they wanted, so that's what they got. Some of these students went on to make several baskets. Then others, decided that was the one and only basket they would make.

In 1985 I decided to take my basket weaving a little further. I needed to learn the art of making baskets from scratch, using white oak. I was delighted to learn of a weekend workshop near Bardstown, KY. Scott Gilbert, and Beth Hester were the instructors. This class was so informative and educational, I'm  so happy that my son and I took advantage of this opportunity. He was only a teenager at the time, and really not as interested as I was, but never the less, it was a very enjoyable weekend, and one that I will never forget.

Over the years I've  gone on to use a variety of weaving materials, including willow bark, honeysuckle, hickory bark, elm bark, driftwood, and of course purchased reed.

I still give potato basket classes, and chair weaving workshops.

The chair shown below is the style you will learn in my workshop.

It's the herringbone design. You must bring your own chair. I supply the reed for the project.

If you've never woven before, expect to stay 4 to 5 hrs. If you're not the crafty type of person, I'll replace the old bottom in your chair at a very affordable price. The chair shown in picture would cost you only $30.00 for materials and labor.
